The July 3rd Issue of the Islander
Happy Independence Day Weekend!
This week's issue has all the latest on where to find food, fun and fireworks over the 4th (Hint: there's fireworks set for two places on Mount Desert Island). But, oh, there's so much more.
When it comes to food no place else in Maine rivals MDI for the number and variety of restaurants. You can read about food, all the leading establishments, and check out their menus in "Delish," a special menu guide free inside this week's issue.
Over in Bar Harbor the fireworks over creating a special deer hunting season have yet to start. Will folks go for no bag limit and the use of bait stations? Only time will tell.
When it comes to being timeless that pretty much describes Islesford artist and author Ashley Bryan. A special exhibit has been created in his honor. He's agreed to doing only two media interviews this year and the results of one of them is in this week's paper.
That collective "Ahhhhhhhh!" you hear in Southwest Harbor is coming from the business community now that reconstruction of Main Street has halted for the summer.
Area drivers are not out of the woods yet, however, when it comes to road work delays. Work on three weeks of repaving in Trenton begins Monday. That will be followed by weeks of work south of Somesville on Route 102 (thankfully both jobs will be done at night).
Speaking of two miles of bumpy road, nurses at Mount Desert Island Hospital have hit an impasse with officials there during contract renewal talks. Find out if either side has an Rx to resolve their issues.
You can get all that, plus money-saving ads, steals and deals, sports, maritime news, the area's most comprehensive events calendar and more, in this week's Mount Desert Islander.
