The September 20th Issue of the Islander

Although it was not a good week for the man hit by a car in Southwest Harbor, there were some developments on the positive side of the ledger.

The owner of a sailboat that sank in Frenchman Bay last week got her boat back, thanks to the efforts of Diver Ed and Bob Collier of the Frenchman’s Bay Boating Company. And, it looks like a shining future for the Jesup Library in Bar Harbor where plans call for a major expansion.

In Mount Desert, it appears a much debated cell phone tower has finally cleared the last possibility of local appeals. Now, opponents have to decide whether or not to take the case to court.

Courts, of course, deal with laws and it’s a matter of lawlessness that has many Trenton residents up in arms. Find out what they had to say to area law enforcement officials about speeding cars, squealing tires, late-night gunplay and fireworks.

For some Bar Harbor water system users, news that rates are more than likely going up 18 percent, and possibly more, is sure to set off a firestorm. So, too, will news that officials have revived the possibility of a rooming house ordinance.

All that, plus sports, arts, entertainment, photos from the Acadia Night Sky Festival, help wanted ads, great deals and steals, in this week’s Mount Desert Islander.

The Mount Desert Islander is located at 310 Main Street in Bar Harbor, Maine.  For more information please contact us at (207) 288-0556 or e-mail This email address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it.
