The February 14th Issue of the Islander
With all due respect to fallen TV star Charlie Sheen, the theme for this week’s Mount Desert Islander is “winning!”
On Tuesday evening the Mount Desert Island High School girls swim team took first place in the PVC Championships, dethroning the Bangor High School team who have held sway in that spot for more than a decade. Take that mall rats!
The MDI boys and girls basketball teams are moving on in tournament action and track team members are bringing home hardware as well.
Over in Northeast Harbor, the Kimball Shop was the merchant where a customer who used their L.L. Bean VISA card last summer was selected as the $1-million winner in a contest. That ought to keep them in tote bags and Bean boots for a while.
Even the Mount Desert Islander gets in on the action, winning 17 awards this past week for editorial, advertising and online excellence from the New England Newspaper and Press Association meeting in Boston.
This week we take readers along as we plumb the depths of vats of boiling water at a local lobster processor and the mind of a local poet. Find out how to discover more about Brazil, oil drilling, Chinese New Year and Shakespeare and come along on the search to Tibetan Treasure.
All that, plus money-saving ads, the latest real estate listings, your neighbors’ opinion and, as commensurate television pitchman and inventor of the Veg-o-matic Ron Popeil would say “there’s more!” in this week’s Mount Desert Islander.
