The March 14th Issue of the Islander

If you thought L.L. Bean in Freeport was the only retail establishment in Maine without locks on the doors you’d be wrong. It’s been years since anyone has had to lock the doors at Gott’s Store in Southwest Harbor. That’s changing however, as the new retail landscape means the store will be closed during the middle of the night.

Speaking of night missions, vandalism isn’t what it used to be. Forget toilet papered trees and upside down park benches. At Mount Desert Island High School they’re backing big pickup trucks up to the doors, tying on ropes, and ripping them off the hinges. Officials there are looking into installing security cameras in an effort to identify future perpetrators.

While there may be plenty of monkey business at MDI High, residents of Town Hill are less than enthusiastic about a proposal to rezone more of Route 102 for commercial activities. Find out what folks have to say about it in this week’s issue.

A lot of folks say there’s too much drama in life today but there’s no such thing for the parents, adults and kids involved in the One Act Play competition at MDI High. They just won the regionals and move onto the states. And, island jazz bands will be competing at the state level in Houlton this weekend and you can watch live via a link on our website at www.fenceviewer.com.

All that plus award-winning chowder cooks, sports results, maritime news, money saving advertisements and more in this week’s issue.
