The July 15 Issue of the Islander
Written by Melinda Rice; News Editor

Islanders were all atwitter this week in anticipation of a visit by President Barack Obama, his wife Michelle and their daughters Malia and Sasha – though not everyone was thrilled at the disruptions caused by the First Family’s visit. Where will they stay and what will they do? Find out in this week’s Islander.

A woman who works at The Jackson Laboratory is under investigation for allegedly providing child pornography to a convicted child molester who used to live in Bar Harbor; and a fire destroyed a waterfront restaurant, the Moorings, in Southwest Harbor but firefighters kept the blaze from spreading to nearby buildings.

In the arts world, the Mount Desert Festival of Chamber music kicks off its 47th season, while the Bar Harbor Music Festival continues its 44th. Noted author Roxana Robinson speaks about her work here, and veteran arts writer Nan Lincoln joins the staff of the Mount Desert Islander, debuting her column “RSVP” about the social goings-on of the island.

Sailing races continue apace, and red tide warnings are issued for large swaths of the Maine coast.

Read all about this and more in this week’s Mount Desert Islander, on newsstands Wednesday afternoon.
