WASHINGTON, D.C. — The U.S. House of Representatives passed the Acadia Improvement Act last week. The bill extends the life of the park advisory commission for another 20 years, raises the ceiling for land acquisition by $10 million to $28 million, and authorizes Acadia to become involved with the development of the off-island transit system, or intermodal facility, on land in Trenton purchased by Friends of Acadia.

Island Police: Oven cooks up flames, smoke

BAR HARBOR — Firefighters responded to a Shannon Way residence Sunday after a report that an oven was on fire. When they arrived, the flames were gone but the house was full of smoke. The oven had been set to self clean before igniting, officials said. A large fan was used to ventilate the house.
